Swap Shop:
Those who self-selectedly volunteer (SSV) at the Swap Shop were invited to this meeting to share their comments and concerns about Swap Shop operations with the Committee.
Key Points of Discussion:
- SSV: why does Committee think there is a problem with SS operations?
RC: Because we have been conducting a survey of Eastham residents, many of whom have raised concerns.
- SSV: What are those concerns?
RC: Read selected comments from the 303 completed surveys and gave copies to those present. SSV Dan Gregory offered to tabulate results.
- To meet the Charge given to the Committee from the BOS, the RC plans to develop policies and put in place systems to select, train, and oversee Swap Shop Volunteers.
- SSV: Is the Committee going to ask the SSV to police the new policies?
RC: No, the SSV will not police Swap Shop activities. The new policies and systems will be designed to create an atmosphere of equal expectations. Having signs in place and rules and procedures to follow empower people to do the right thing.
- SSV: Condition of Swap Shop needs to be improved: fan, fix snow holes, windows that open, light over desk, rest room, cabinet to store scissors, tape, first aid supplies.
Neil Andres: Requested SSV send him a list of items still needing attention.
- SSV: Need more volunteers in winter and on Wednesdays.
RC: Will address need.
- SSV: Please provide web sites for recycling info.
RC: Will provide. Plan to install a bulletin board at SS and will post info there as well.
- SSV: Ed noted that he worked with a bunch of contractors that he thought would donate the materials and build a new Swap Shop.
Neil Andres: Requested Ed to prepare a proposal to the BOS to that effect.
- In order to help prepare Volunteer Handbook, Andrea Aldana will meet at the Swap Shop with some of the volunteers.
The SSV then left the meeting. The RC and SSV reps agreed to keep communication channels open.
Miscellaneous:
- Neil Andres noted that the cost of printing the Eastham Recycling Brochure was paid for out of his budget, not from a grant as originally stated.
Next Meeting Date: Tuesday, July 17, 2014, 5:30 PM
